Plymouth Marjon Case Study
How Rocking Horse developed a customised remote filming solution to create remote learning content for Plymouth Marjon University
“It has been a pleasure working with the team at Rocking Horse over the last 3 years. Not only are they talented producers of video content and animations, but they have taken the time to really get under the skin of our projects to understand what we need. The feedback from our students and stakeholders has been highly complementary.”
Dr Richard Thain, Director, Learning Solutions and Innovation at Plymouth Marjon University
About Plymouth Marjon University
Plymouth Marjon University are one of the top ranked UK universities for student satisfaction and social inclusion and they have a strong track record in developing high-quality online learning programmes. Rocking Horse have helped create over 100 hours of educational content for the University.
The Requirement
Rocking Horse helped Plymouth Marjon University create high-quality educational video content. The brief was to create a year’s worth of lecture content for two post graduate courses, amounting to around 200 x 10 minute videos.
The solution also needed a contingency built in to adhere to Covid social distancing regulations at the time and meant that using a live film crew was out of the question, so a remote filming solution was needed.
The Solution
To minimise production costs and maximise production value on screen, Rocking Horse designed and built a bespoke remote filming studio at the university.
The production team was able to log in virtually to work with Marjon’s subject matter experts and capture their performance remotely. This allowed for more postproduction focus to create engaging video and graphics supporting the learning content.
Regular touch points and a close working relationship with the client was key to maintaining a rolling delivery of a large number of video outputs. A highly organised production management approach and quality control ensured delivery of a large number of quality video lectures across the year.
Impact and Benefits
Not only was the feedback from the client and end-users been highly complementary, lecturers enjoyed the flexibility to choose when to film content.
The success of the project led to numerous projects with the University, with Rocking Horse producing many additional training courses using the remote filming approach.
Further Marjon course content was created in addition to an onboarding training series for the NHS.
